I have worked in the hospitality field as well as customer service for almost half my life. In addition to going to school for hospitality, I’ve worked as a busser and server at restaurants and a country club. I’ve also worked at the Front Desk, Night Audit (the overnight shift), Luggage Service, and Concierge at a Disney World Resort. I’ve worked as a Front Office Manager in charge of Valets, Front Desk Agents, a PBX Department all while also performing the duties of a Revenue Manager. I’ve worked very closely with GM’s, Management Companies and Owners. I’ve seen and learned quite a bit in my experience. And since I continue to work in the industry, I choose to remain anonymous. But there are some things I can tell you about myself.
Why did I start hotellmeaboutit? It’s simple. Over the years working in the hotel industry, I’ve realized that people have a notion about what working at a hotel is like, and that notion doesn’t come close to what it’s actually like. Put more clearly, if you are a person that works in an industry that can say, “I wish everyone could work in my shoes for a few days to see what it’s like,” then hotellmeaboutit will hit close to home with you.
But I want to take it a step further.
I want people who don’t work in the industry to read hotellmeaboutit too. Is it fun to laugh at people’s expense? Umm, YES. But wouldn’t it be nice if people picked up a thing or two along the way that they maybe didn’t know? If just one person learned something from my blog that could end up making their life easier – as well as mine – the next time they travel to a hotel, then I’ve done my job.
That is what makes me and my stories different from the other hotel stories you might have read that claim to tell you ‘what really goes on behind the scenes at the hotel’, or, ‘the things hotels don’t want you to know’ or any of that crap. I take things that you don’t know about the hotel industry, tell a funny story about them, and then real life tips about that situation that may be able to make your life a little easier when traveling – all while making a few people laugh along the way.
Because face it, you don’t want to end up in one of my blogs, do ya?
